victoryartsprojects presents lifecycles
Victory Arts Projects continues its program of art in public places, highlighting
the work of NJ/NY area artists and investigating current themes that motivate
their work.
This exhibit emphasizes the role of the artist as an investigator into the nature
of things: the meaning of the world around or within them.
We have gathered artists in the Jersey City/NY metro area who have a great
interest in life-systems, the sciences: biology, anthropology, physics, botany,
astronomy or whose work examines questions of origins, time and space,
beginnings, ends, growth or eternity
.

Through our Art in Public program,
we use visual art displays to call
attention to the spirit of our city and
ourselves. We hope the color and
magic of our current banner display
brings attention to the wonderful
work being done for the children and
women of York Street Project,

JERSEY CITY – Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy, the Jersey City Municipal Council, the Jersey City
Division of Cultural Affairs in conjunction with Pro Arts are proud to present “Lifecycles @ The
Beacon” as part of the 18th Annual Jersey City Artists Studio Tour, which will be held citywide from
noon to 6:00pm on October 4th and 5th, 2008.
The Jersey City Artists Studio Tour is one of the East Coast’s most prominent annual art events drawing
upwards of 10,000 visitors. The tour includes hundreds of artists, dozens of exhibitions, galleries,
museums, live music and performances, food, drink and parties – all located just five minutes from
Manhattan.
Jersey City’s Beacon condominium, formerly known as the Jersey City Medical Center, is the best
example of Art Deco architecture anywhere in the State of New Jersey and is the nation's largest historic
residential renovation project. The Beacon will be hosting its first major art exhibition during Tour
Weekend at their location on Beacon Place off of Montgomery Street.
“I encourage everyone to visit Beacon’s exhibition, which is held at this historic venue,” said Mayor
Healy. “The Beacon is the epitome of architectural elegance and I am proud of its legacy. When you
walk through the doors you will not only be presented with a remarkable art exhibit, but you will also
have the opportunity to take in the art and splendor of the Beacon itself.”
“Lifecycles @ The Beacon,” an exhibition curated by James Pustorino of Victory Arts Projects and
organized by Greg Brickey of the Jersey City Division of Cultural Affairs, features sculpture by many
of the tri-state areas’ best-known artists displayed amongst the marble columns and Art Deco recreation
areas of the Beacon.
Curator James Pustorino describes the exhibit as “seeking to emphasize the role of the artist as an
investigator into the nature of things and the meaning of the world around or within them.” He adds that
“We’ve gathered artists from the Jersey City / NY metropolitan area who have a great interest in life-
systems and the sciences: biology, anthropology, physics, botany, astronomy or whose work investigates
questions of origins, time and space, beginnings, ends, growth or eternity. “
Artists featured in “Lifecycles @ The Beacon” include Barbara Goldner, Jill Scipione, Kevin
Koniewicz, Marisa Dipaola, Ev Stone, Michael Garrahan, Caleb Nussear, Maggie Ens, Melissa Reed,
Keungsuk K Sexton, Steven Singer, and Hijo Nam.
The exhibition, which will be free and open to the public, will also feature a reading by renowned Jersey
City historian Bob Leach from the Beacon’s Frank Hague room at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 4th and
3 p.m. on Sunday, October 5th. A screening of the award-winning documentary “The Art and Crimes of
Ron English” will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday of tour weekend in the Beacon’s Art Deco
movie theater.
Said George Filopolous, President of Metrovest Equities. “We’re proud to
lend our support to this wonderful event and look forward to the public enjoying these exceptional
works of art.”
