Edward Fausty: The Shack Fragments come from my detailed photographs of old radio components from my
uncle's ham radio workroom, known by friends and family as "Jack's Shack". The coils, heat sinks, batteries,
etc. have mystery born of unfamiliarity even as I recall as a child hearing uncle Jack's voice utter words such
as "frequency" and "modulation".
The Halftone Shack Fragments are an experiment in simplification. Instead of the gentle tone modulation we
usually have in photographs, we see here how the computer uses elemental solid black shapes to simulate
the tonalscale and fool the eye. This process is controlled by inputting numbers representing frequency,
resolution and screen angle. the resulting digital files are extremely tiny because they govern the placement of
relatively few solid black shapes.
